How do I replace the hedlight dimmer switch on my 2002 Monti Carlo SS. The high beams will not stay on.? - how to replace manfrotto 501 tripod head

I think I need to replace the multi-functional switch (high / low beam, turn signals, wipers and cleaning) of the handle, I have no idea how to do that. Is it necessary to remove the wheel? I have an eBay, but have not yet purchased, because I will know the extent of this work? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
